Asaka High School/Wedding

| | TrackBacks (0)

Brought some Japanese students from Asaka High School around Singapore on Wednesday. The meeting place was at Furama Riverpoint Hotel and somehow I managed to get lost while taking a bus from Queenstown so I had to take a taxi from some unknown bus stop that I alighted at. At that point in time, I felt very worried. I, a road idiot, was supposed to bring tourists around Singapore. I better not lose them at some ulu place. Anyway, after a short briefing, we walked over to Holiday Inn Atrium to pick them up. My group was a all-girl group and I'm quite happy because an all-girl group's defintely better than an all-guy group. First stop was St. Andrew Cathedral. Since I didnt know how to get there, I grouped together with Jessie and Kheng Liang(?)'s groups and we walked towards Chinatown MRT to take the MRT. Whoever said that Chinatown MRT was near Holiday Inn should be slapped. The walk was so freaking long and the Singaporeans wearing T-shirts couldnt even take the heat, lest to say the Japanese students who were wearing double layers of clothing. During the ride up the escalator at the MRT station, I must say that it was rather amusing to see like 20+ students all standing on the left and not a single soul on the right. It's the correct way to stand on escalators but seriously, no Singaporeans will ever follow that way because we are all so kiasu and we always want to be first in everything. :D

Next up was the War Memorial and my group wasnt too comfortable with it so we separated from Jessie and Kheng Liang's groups and proceeded to Chijmes. Seriously, the organiser should tell groups in future not to choose Chijmes because it's the most boring place in the morning/afternoon. Chijmes only come to life in the night and we were supposed to bring them back by 4pm so obviously they wouldnt get to see any interesting stuff there.

Walked through the bazaar at SMU before going to the Singapore Art Museum. It was my first time stepping into SMU and I must say that the very 'in' infrastructure makes the place seem very 'cold'. My group was attractive by this clay handphone accessory thing and we basically spent quite some time there. After that, we walked out of SMU and I realised that I didnt know where the SAM was so I had to ask a passer-by who told me that SAM was right behind me. DAMN, so paiseh can! SAM has no entrance fee if you enter at 12 so we went to eat first since it was only 11 plus. Recommended the cheap Kopitiam to them but they didnt want to eat there so we settled down at Coffee Bean to eat lunch. Seriously, I never though that I would say this but the food there is like totally worth the money...because the portion is freaking big. After lunch, we went to the SAM and there were like Singaporean secondary school kids there too. Schools should never organise trips to the SAM because the secondary students were absolutely asses who didnt know how to appreciate art, or even try to appreciate art. The last time I went there, NJC students were there and most of them were as noisy as the secondary school kids I saw there on Wednesday. Instead of entering the gallery to look at the art pieces, they were seated outside the gallery enjoying the aircon and talking at a noise level as if their friends were deaf or something. Total disgrace.

After the SAM, we went to Raffles City to do some shopping and the Japanese students were surprised to see that we have oden in Singapore too. Erm...or rather, oden that looked like fishballs boiled in hot water. As we were all tired from the morning walk to Chinatown MRT, we took a taxi back to the hotel. They were damn nice people and they tried to pay for my expenses throughout the trip but I wouldnt let them because it's just weird to let tourists pay for the host. Back at the hotel, they gave me some really cute sweets. :D Thanks~!

Attended my cousin(?)'s wedding dinner last night at Goodwood Park Hotel. Goodwood Park Hotel has like the most run-down carpark any hotel has and my father refused to park his car at the underground carpark because it looked more like a storeroom than a carpark. The wedding was supposed to start at 7:30pm but like any other Chinese wedding, it didnt start on time because even at 8pm, the place was only half-filled. It was only at like close to 9pm that the wedding officially started.

The newlyweds cutting the cake.

Pouring the champagne.

Yum~ seng! Okay, I dont even know 95% of the people giving the toast.

The first dish of the day. Suckling pig, sushi, mushroom, prawn and chicken. Damn good.

Dish 2 was actually fish maw soup but I forgot to take a photo so here's dish 3, roasted duck.

Steamed garoupa, followed by scallops with mushroom.

Abalone, sea cucumber and vegetables. Before this we had prawns cooked in Chinese herbs and wine but I was too busy struggling with de-shelling the prawn. Also, my hand was dirty. Next was black pepper udon noodles but yup, hands still dirty.

The oh-my-goodness-so-freaking-yummy mango cream with sago. Damn heavenly. I'm sure there was somemore food but I cant remember what I ate. :D

Me, Popo and Auntie.

Me, Popo

Before I end this post, I want to say that I'm damn addicted to NEWS' new song, weeeek. So freaking catchy and every member is dressed in suit and I think that guys in suits are damn sexy, after guys in yukatas. Every member looks so good in this PV. I was melting when Shige had his solo in the PV and I almost swooned when Massu wriggled out of his jacket. :D

Anyone wanna buy the CD for me? I want the Wakatsuki Chinatsu book too by the way.

School, school and more fucking school

My life's like revolving around school and it sucks because the project deadlines are approaching and very soon, I'll just merge and be like a part of school or something. Seriously, I'm so traumatised by school that I actually have dreams about school! Specifically of the Forensic Science coordinator giving a lecture on the breakdown of the marks. YES, that's how stressed out I am. Anyway, here are some pictures from school. Once again, I have no damn freaking life that every single photo in my phone is from school. Well, except for those idol pictures that I uploaded a few months ago.

Did some DNA translation thing for lab so Fiona and I were so wowed by the DNA model that we started taking photos...of the DNA. Yes, we are suaku people who probably looked like we never done Science before to the teaching assistant(TA). Talking of that teaching assistant, she was damn difficult to understand and she kept hurrying us although we had no clue as to what we were supposed to do. Seriously, when she's teaching, she keeps asking 'Do you understand?' in that better-say-you-know-or-you-can-go-and-die tone, so ya, no one dared to say that they didnt understand. Half the time I was rolling my eyes when she was teaching and the interesting thing was that one of my lab partners was doing the same thing too. I rarely talk to people I meet for the first time and that day we were gossiping about the teacher like we knew each other for ages. One thing I realise about some of the Science people, they are damn friendly. Then again, I guess you have to be friendly when doing lab because I'm sure you dont want to get sabo-ed during lab.

Anyway, here's the double-helix DNA.

Had to make the amino acid model and I was like copying every single step on the paper till the extent that I dont even know what amino acid I was making. Talking about making the model, the notes that we had were black and white and the notes that the TA had was coloured so it was easy for her to make the model. She was like so cross when we took damn long to recognise the parts of the model. Fuck, I hate TA who have that I-dont-want-to-teach-you-but-I-have-to-and-it-sucks attitude. Then dont be TA la!

Fiona's amino acid model.

The DNA translation process. Done manually. Supposed to follow every single step in the instructions but it was so stupid because we were doing it manually that we just took the short cut and just plucked out every single part that was redundant instead of faithfully moving it though the paper ribosome.

Cant remember the name of this experiment but we were supposed to separate DNA. Of course la, we didnt actually get to use real DNA but instead used dyes, so it was like chromatography. Somebody in my lab group broke the agarose gel so we had to re-do this thing and in the end, we were the last to leave. Whatever la actually because we still left half-an-hour earlier.

The dyes. We actually got to look at glo-fish too but forgot to take photos. Damn pretty. Also, the TA this time round rocked. Damn nice person.

Went to work yesterday and was informed of the new fee hike. WTF is wrong with the company la? Fee hike again? That's like twice in a less than half a year since the gst increase. The reason that they gave for increasing the fees was almost as stupid as Starhub's cable TV. In order not to offend my company, let me give you the reason Starhub stated for raising their fees. They said that they never raised their fees before and since they have been adding so many new channels, they have to increase their fees (to cover cost). The last bit in the bracket was what my company said, not what Starhub said. Stupid right?! Nobody is going to care if you cant cover your own cost. What's more, it's their own fault anyway. I was totally dissing the fee hike issue in front of the CCTV camera at work and accidentally commented that the letter given out sounded as if it was written by a primary school kid. Anyone has any job recommendations? I probably need a new job soon. :D

Went shooting last night for hy's school project. It was like DAMN fun. Great break from being tormented by school and work! Thanks for asking me along~! Oh, and I got to know lots of new places in Singapore!

So, my sister is in the hospital now because of pneumonia. Hope she's alright. Damn worried when I heard that she was in the hospital but not knowing the reason why. I just realised I'm actually quite nice.
