No resolutions this year because I cant keep them anyway! Happy New Year!

31. Field trip to Shimokamakarijima with Lukas, Alice and Andrew.

32. Was involved in the taping of Kung-fu guy's door...and Jeff's door as well. It was

an evil thing to do but hey, people do stupid things on exchange!

33. Got drunk(drunk is like the state I was in for most of 2010...wtf) and hurt my knees

when I fell down on the road. The stuffed cat in the picture broke my fall so I only

ended up with light scratches. The stuffed cat's alright by the way.

34. Put someone's underpants on my head. Someone stole Omar's laundry(I wasnt involved!)

up during matches.

36. One of the Spanish guys got too heated up when Spain won and broke the window. World

Cup ended on a bloodied note.

37. Tanabata Party at Yuki's house!

38. Played Pachinko and broke even. Phew!

39. Attempted to re-create the Lady Gaga ribbon hairdo. Wasnt a total failure I

guess.

40. Literally got thrown out an izakaya by Clement, Andrew, Hwisang and Randall.

43. At Kumamoto Castle with Alice.

44. Saw a live band performance by Justin, Santi, Josep and their brother.

45. Travelled to Kurashiki with Damon, Andrew and Gui.

46. Drank and did Hanabi in school!

47. All these for a free chocolate-coated banana...lol

48. Went for a ride in this car. The driver actually did a donut!

49. Painted salt balls with Clement, Alice, Gunyoung, Hwisang and Dohun.

53. Challenged myself to eat the 10-kara curry at Coco's Curry House. It was fucking

spicy and my ass burned for a few days after that.

54. Ate loquat-flavoured ice-cream in Nagasaki.

55. Carried Neil on my back...for like a split-second before I fell forward.

56. Laid down in the middle of the road just for the kick of it.

57. Dyed Gui's hair. Was supposed to dye it silver but it turned out to be brown and

Gui's scalp was like pink for a few days. Oops.

58. Got so drunk that I managed to fall onto my bike and ended up with a huge bruise. I

realised that I bruise a lot and really easy in Japan but I rarely do so in

Singapore.

59. Got told by police that we were too noisy and was asked to leave. We had a farewell

So 2010...I spent most of the year in Japan, 9 months to be exact and the remaining 3

months in Singapore, Malaysia, China and Korea. Lots of things happened in 2010 and the

one that I'll never forget will be the passing of my grandmother on March 18. I was in

Korea on holiday when I received the news and I was so shocked and I couldnt stop

crying. I cant believe that a year is about to pass since her death. Today's only the

first day of the New Year and it already feels different without her around. Popo, Gong

Xi Fa Cai!!!

Anyway, let's move on to the stuff I did in 2010 for the first time.

1. Fukubukuro shopping in mainly Harajuku, Tokyo with Peony and Caity. Bought loads of

stuff and had difficulties carrying them back to my dorm.

2. Fillet a cutlassfish with Tomomi with instructions from Souchan. Actually, it was my

first time filleting any kind of fish. My hands smelt so bad afterwards that I lost my

appetitie.

3. Gave a speech in Japanese in front of tons of Japanese people at the Hiroshima-

Singapore Association symposium(?).

4. Drank too much till I puked. I kept losing during the games we played and had to down

1~2 cups of sake each time. Ended up hugging the toilet bowl of the karaoke place and

smelt like shit afterwards.

5. Visited Kurokawa Onsen with Souchan, Asami and Toku! In fact, we did 3 onsens in less

than 3 hours because we woke up too late the previous day because we were too drunk from

the previous night. (See point 4.)

6. Tried Basashi, or Horse Sashimi. It was surprisingly good!

7. Ate at a yatai(mobile food stalls) in Fukuoka with Tiffany and Andrew!

8. Bought Soraben(bento sold on planes) on my flight from Fukuoka to Okinawa!

9. Went to Okinawa with Tiffany, Andrew, Toku and Sojung! Okinawa reminded me of

Singapore alot so I guess I was the killjoy because I kept comparing the

similarities.

10. Experienced a winter wonderland!...which turned into dirty, slushy snow by mid-

day.

11. Chipped someone's tooth.

12. Had 2 9-hour long transits in the Thailand Airport...whose name I still cant

pronounce.

13. Had a squeezy bath at Dogo Onsen, apparently Japan's oldest hot spring. There were

so many people there that it wasnt comfortable at all.

14. Said hello to Matsuyama Castle in early Spring.

15. Visited this cafe called Bateren that had a horror theme.

16. Drank gochujang + soju as a punishment. God was that awful!

17. Climbed all the way up Namsan. Or rather, from the foot of the mountain to the foot

of N Seoul Tower. Luckily it was winter and not summer!

18. Attended my first Nyuugakushiki(School Entrance Ceremony)...although it wasnt me who

was entering school.

19. Did Hanami at Kagamiyama Kouen and made someone puke at the end of the day.

20. Kissed a guy.

21. Watched Koda Kumi live! She was so cute and sexy!

22. Went to Nagoya Castle with Caity and Andrew. Ventilation at the top of the castle

was really bad.

23. At Inuyama Castle with Andrew and Caity.

24. Took a puff and quickly decided that smoking is not for me.

25. Helped pitch a tent and did mountain climbing at 4am because all of us got forced by

Omar to do so...lol.

26. Saw Uehara Miyu in person. She is so skinny that it's scary.

27. Sight-seeing at Onomichi with Nuibe-san, Takako-san and Pek Sia!

28. Road trip to Tottori and Shimane with Clement, Erik, Peony, Becky, Austin, Gui and

Jussi. All of us aboard the 'Cockodum'. Catchphrase for the road trip was 'Fuck

Damon'...=D

29. Saw a camel and climbed sand dunes at Tottori. Couldnt ride the camel because they

were quarantined.

30. At Matsue Castle with Peony!

At Bongeunsa! Across the temple is the COEX hotel and shopping mall, so it was really weird(and ugly to me). It's like past meets present but in a weird way.

Pupae for dinner! OMG! Luckily it was just a side dish...

With Hyosun at Gwanghwamun!

Went to this place called Junko and they kept giving us free food. In fact, they gave us so much free food to the extent that we had to reject them...lol. Tried Kiwi soju for the first time and it was GREAT!

At Daegu!!!

At Kyungpook National University. Seriously, why are all Korean universities so pretty???

I usually fly to Korea but this time round, I took a ferry there from

Fukuoka! Clement came to see us off at 8am although his flight back home

was at 10am! ^^

The ferry! It was smaller than expected and it shook a little. Easier to

fall asleep though. Sucks if you get seasick though. :D

Reached Busan and went to Haeundae, this really famous beach in Busan!!!

As it was summer, there were lots of people swimming there!! Great for

guys who want to look at bikini babes...lol

Took the KTX for 3 hours to Seoul and met up with Lukas' friends for

karaoke. The karaoke rooms in Korea are seriously really pretty but I

still prefer Japanese karaoke.

Lukas and Jinsuk at Gyeongbok Palace!

wtf.

Neoprints outfit! I still prefer taking neoprints in Japan because you can

send the soft copy to your cellphone.

wtf no. 2.

At Suwon! So glad that we decided to join a day tour because it involved a

lot of walking even though we went on a tour.

Hwaseong Fortress!

Suwon was really pretty!!!

5000won to try out archery but I was too stingy to pay...lol

Went back to the hostel and saw Olle by chance! He was touring around

Korea and we ended up staying at the same hostel!!! So coincidental!

Went over to the girls' dorm on Monday night to give my friend, Anastasia, a

surprise birthday party~.

She was pleasantly surprised and we had a great time eating chocolate cake and

chit-chatting. We actually talked too loudly and some Japanese girls came over

to shush us :( Party pooper(just kidding...we were totally at fault

though)...

Trying to be Sadako...wtf.

The following day, we had a all-you-can-drink session to celebrate three

birthdays. Why so many people born in July one??!
Peony, Anastasia and me with Anastasia's present.

Note I found in class and I stuck it onto one of the guy's presents...Lol. It

reads, "I'm sorry but you are not my friend."

Clement with his birthday present(a porn DVD) and birthday card(few pieces of

paper taped together).

Anastasia with her Hitler book...Lol.

Bought 3 porn/hentai comics for Randall and his reaction was hilarious!

The other guys enjoying Randall's presents -_-.

Double Andrew. Double Monkey-faces.

Omar went around making people drink beer+whisky with a straw. Needless to

say, many people got fucking drunk that night.

Attempting to kiss Peony...first sign of getting drunk.

I was lying on the floor for some reason(cant remember exactly why) and I

started kicking one of my friends. He decided to retaliate by roping in help

to lift me up...wtf.

They seriously picked me up and threw me out of the place...wtf. So evil lor!

There was this other group of Japanese people who starting whipping out their

cameras to take pictures. No one helped me can! Wait...then again...everyone

else was probably too drunk to care. Had to crawl back into the

place...wtf.

I have no idea how I walked out of the place and this is probably how I

managed to do so. People had to drag me out...lol. My friends apparently

determined that I wasnt in a state to ride my bicycle home so 4 of them

decided to walk me home. One of them had to hold onto me the whole time

because according to them, I "couldnt walk straight". These are actually the

better pictures and there are tons of fugly pictures from that day on

facebook...my reputation!!!

That saying, it was a really fun birthday party though :D

There was a Yukata Festival in school last Sunday. The festival started from

10am but it was too hot to go out and I had part-time job at 4pm so I only

went there after my job ended at 6pm. Seriously, Yukata Festival is just like

the School Festival except that people are clad in yukata(obviously) this time

and the scale is much smaller. The programme schedule was pretty much the same

so to tell the truth, it was pretty boring. Somemore so fucking hot lor!

I already have 2 yukatas back in Singapore so I didnt want to waste money

buying another one. So yup, I was the only girl among my friends who wasnt

wearing a yukata.

With Leeming from Malaysia. Together we form "SM"(Singapore,

Malaysia)...wtf.

The yakitori queue was really long but I'm glad that we did queue up. It was

fucking awesome!

Finally decided to try out wearing the fake eyelashes I got from the neoprint

machine. First time putting on fake eyelashes and it was pretty alright. My

eyes did get kinda tired at the end of the day though...but in exchange, I had

crazy lashes for the whole day. :D

What's a festival without people dressed up in strange costumes??

Was originally sitting around doing nothing and waiting for the fireworks when

my friend asked if I wanted to go karaoke. So from the picture, I obviously

ditched fireworks and went for karaoke. There were only 3 of us but we got the

freaking big party room!!! So cool~

Celebrated Omar's birthday at the lake after karaoke and he basically got

caked in the face 15minutes after we got there. :D

I never fail to take ugly photos of myself...wtf

He got so irritated with us commenting on that so he pulled them all the way up and tucked in his shirt in the end. It was so hilarious that we made the other guys do it as well. :D

All of us in front of Kumamoto Castle.

The girls who went on the trip~

Stopped by a sushi place and we were so hungry that we just kept eating and eating once we sat down. The 4 of us gobbled down a grand total of 45 plates while there.

At Kura-zushi, you get a free lucky draw chance whenever you eat 5 plates of sushi. We had 9 chances but only managed to get 2 prizes :( That thing on the left is called "Buri-suri" btw. Pun on "Buru-suri"(Bruce Lee)...wtf

Pretty~

At Mt.Aso. The fog was pretty thick that day but luckily it wasnt as thick as the previous time when I went there so I got to see stuff~

English translation rocks XD

At the minshuku in Beppu! The room was really wide and pretty~!!

Onsen in the minshuku.

The owner of the minshuku was really nice to us! She prepared all this alcohol for us...free-of-charge!!! Awww~

Back in Fukuoka's Canal City~Trying on sunnies but not buying them!

Whale meat!!! I really wanted to try this but it's too expensive and I dont know how to prepare it so I didnt buy it.

Went on a roadtrip to Kyushu last weekend~!
First stop was Fukuoka where we ate ramen at this place called Ichiran. They

serve the best ramen I've ever tasted! I usually dont finish my ramen when I

eat at other places but I always finish up the noodles and soup at Ichiran.(I

sound like I've been there shitloads of times but I've only been there

twice...too far away :()

Next stop was Nagasaki's Confucius Temple~

Trying on the costumes in the temple. We look like vampires from a Hong Kong

movie...lol

Bought a 525yen huge-ass mooncake and shared it among my friends. I've no idea

what they added into the mooncake but I've never tasted anything like it

before. Not a compliment btw.

Sakamoto Ryoma cutouts/souveniers/places of attractions are EVEYWHERE because

of the NHK drama...seriously, too much is too much!!!

Behind the fountain located in the Peace Memorial Park.

I suggested doing this pose and made everyone stand there for like 5 mintues

or so to get the best pose. The people around us were seriously laughing at

us, especially since when we have non-Asian-looking people in our group. This

ojisan actually took photos of them as well! Lol.

At the cabin! The cabin was small but really cosy~Although my foot was

injured, I still demanded that I get to sleep on the top bunk. Kinda re-

injured myself while climbing up and down.

After entering the onsen at the cabin/hotel. The onsen was really cool! They

had a onsen shaped like a boat and another shaped like some European-eque

pavillion. Sucked that it was raining though...

What's the best beverage after coming out of an onsen besides milk? BEER!!!

Got so sleepy after the onsen that I fell asleep in the middle of the

drinking/football session.

Had a farewell party last Thursday for one of the exchange students because

he's going back soon.
A horse from Nevada showed up...lol. He actually put a headlight on his head

over that mask and it was so hilarious when he came. Lol.

With Steve, the guy who's returning home.

The guy in the shirt showed up really drunk and started hugging Steve. Lol,

who shows up at a party DRUNK??!

Brought soju to the party!.

My new "family"! wtf...

I also drank a tad too much during the party. Okay, I didnt actually drink too

much but I probably drank too fast so I was really high for like 90% of the

night.

I started stealing people's shirts/glasses...

...and squeezing people's faces.

Sorry!!! I dont actually remember doing this!

Kung-fu showdown.

Aftermath of drinking too much alcohol. I ran out of the room after this and

my friends starting chasing after me. While running, I accidentally tripped

and fell and grazed my toes and knee...ouch. Have no idea why but I always

manage to trip while wearing slippers but I've never ever fallen down while

wearing heels...-_-.
I was so drunk(according to my friends) that when I fell, I didnt even use my

hands to break my fall. Luckily I was hugging onto my friend's stuffed toy and

it sorta broke my fall. Phew!!!

Lesson of the day: Never drink too much again.

Drove all the way up a mountain to have a little picnic while looking at the

beautiful scenery~
Singaporean+Malaysian...lol

Peony, Sun Yi, Anastasia, Yee Sin, Tsugiharu-san

Breathtaking scenery!

What's a picnic without random worms?? Lol.

The Japanese characters for Mitarai is the same as the characters for

"Otearai", which is the Japanese word for toilet...wtf. It must suck to have

the surname "Mitarai" because I'm sure people will mis-pronounce

it...sometimes on purpose.

At Otome-za. Pretending that I'm a spectator.

Trying to do my best impression of that thing next to me.

Running away from school.

It was really hot that day so we all had matcha ice-cream.

After ice-cream, we went to this place to help harvest lemons~.

I actually did manual labour!!! There were lots of mosquitoes and freaking hot

but it was really fun!!!

Harvested 3 crates of lemons~. Initially we harvested only 1 crate and the guy

was like "Okay, let's head back" and we were like "Already???!"...So they let

us harvest more in the end.

Kanten jelly as dessert number 2.

Group photo.

Got to take oranges and lemons back! The oranges were humongous! Had to ask 2

other people to help me eat them...lol.

Stopped by the beach on the way home and took random pictures there.

Found a dead starfish. Peony's expression rocks~

Kanjani 8 was here??! WHAT!!!!

Went for Toukasan last Saturday. Toukasan is this yukata festival that's held

in Hiroshima City every June. I actually went for Toukasan once 3 years back

when I was here on internship.
There were lots of girls in yukatas but not guys...WHY???! Where's my eye

candy?!

Sleeping on the job.

At Enryuji! There was a freaking queue to enter the temple and seriously you

cant really do anything in there unless you're willing to spend money(1000yen

for an uchiwa) or willing to go into the huge sea of people.

Mango-ame, or candy-coated mango. Wanted to get candy-coated apples but it was

like 300yen for a freaking small apple and it's difficult to share an apple

between two people so we got the mango one instead. Still expensive but at

least we could each get a piece.

Went to this really cool restaurant for dinner! I couldnt figure out how to

use the tap in the bathroom and had to ask for help...wtf.

Motsu-nabe! Motsu-nabe is like pig/cow intestines nabe. I've never liked

eating intestines before coming to Japan but now I love it so much~! So oily

but delicious~Finished everything...including the soup!

The parade started while we were eating and it was people mountain people

sea!!!

Really wanted to drink something after dinner so we got beer(The most popular

drink in Japan no matter when...lol)! Were too cheapo to get the overpriced

beer at the stalls so we decided to queue up at Family Mart.
Drank while waiting for Caity to come and we basically made lots of noise

outside Parco. Luckily it was Toukasan so everyone else was noisy too :D

In the queue for purikura! Had to queue for around half-an-hour for

purikura...wtf.

Bon-odori!

Asked my friend to buy me something from the yatai and he said yes provided

that I was willing to take photos. I was like "Huh?" at first and finally

realised what he meant when I saw the strawberry-chocolate banana. All these

for a 200yen overpriced banana.

I'm the only one without yukata :(

I love Japan's purikura machines. Auto makeup!!! Lol~

For some weird reason, I've been into making bentos recently. After staying in

Japan for 7months, I finally gave up my instant noodles-only lifestyle and

went to the supermarket to buy oil, soy sauce, salt and other stuff that are

required for cooking. My kitchen and fridge are so well-stocked now~
Brought bento to school everyday since last Thursday and on the first day that

I brought a bento, I basically shocked everyone who ate lunch with me.

"Wait, you can cook?!"
"What happened to you?!"
"Are you sure you're Jiahui?"

I've been telling everyone that I cant cook since I came here last October.

That's actually true in both ways. Firstly, I only had instant noodles and no

oil so I couldnt cook even if I wanted to. Secondly, anyone can cook...It's

just a matter of whether the food tastes good or not. The food that I make is

obviously edible but taste-wise, I'm the only one who can probably stomach it.

Anyway, here's what I've been making this week.

20th May 2010, Thursday
Main: Yakisoba that looks really disgusting in this photo. It was actually a

little disgusting in reality because I added a little too much oil. Bleh.
Sides: Tamagoyaki, Enoki sprinkled with pepper, Spinach and Onions, Fried

Potatoes
I only have a round frying pan here and while it's still possible to make

tamagoyaki, I always end up with pointy ends. I miss my square pan back in

Singapore!

24th May 2010, Monday
Main: Nothing because I have no rice cooker nor rice at home.
Sides: Mashed potatoes with melted cheese, Spinach, Enoki, Tamagoyaki
I only had the same ingredients at home so I could only use the same

stuff.

25th May 2010, Tuesday
Main: Rice I bought from the school canteen.
Sides: Mashed potatoes with cucumbers and tuna, Chikuwa sauteed with

mushrooms, Tamagoyaki, Cherry Tomato, Brocolli
I like this bento best up till date, taste-wise and visual-wise.

26th May 2010, Wednesday
Main: Fried rice with ham. Wanted to make yaki-onigiri but I kinda failed so I

turned it into fried rice.
Sides: Croquette left over from dinner, Tamagoyaki, Cherry Tomatoes,

Cucumbers
Everyone was like "Wow, sugoi!!! How did you make croquette?" and I was like

"Erm, I bought it from the supermarket...leftover from dinner."
"Okay, I take back the sugoi part."

27th May 2010, Thursday
Main: Rice.
Sides: Tamagoyaki with tuna(I need to change the egg menu), Mashed potatoes

with cucumbers and tuna(yes, I have too much tuna at home), Cherry Tomatoes,

Misoyaki Chicken
First attempt at cooking meat!!! Turned out pretty good...a little salty

because I added too much miso but still delightful if you like salty stuff.

Bad part about cooking using miso is that miso burns damn fast and it was

helluva tiring washing the frying pan.
Comments I got regarding this bento included "You bought this from the

supermarket and just placed it in the bento right?" and "Who did you pay to

cook for you?"....wtf.

I'm kinda addicted to making bentos now...shit. Why am I turning all

domesticated???!
